The Swiss Federal Wrestling and Alpine Festival: this is your virtual prize table

The prize table or gift temple, as it’s referred to in German, is a pillar of the festival – just like wrestling shirts and the final round. And it offers pretty much everything. Just like our shop.

From 26 to 28 August, Pratteln, a municipality in the canton of Basel-Land, will be all about the Swiss national sport. The country’s best wrestlers, stone-throwing «Steinstösser» and puck-hitting «Hornusser» – all men, by the way, – are geared up to challenge the best in their league. They’re also referred to as the «Bösen» or bad guys in English.

After the competition and depending on their rank, the winners get to choose which prize they want to take home. The prizes on display at the Swiss Federal Wrestling and Alpine Festival (ESAF) in Pratteln are kept in an impressive tent construction and are tailored to the athletes’ needs and lifestyles. In other words, a target audience that mainly lives in houses equipped with a garage, workshop in the basement and a garden spanning a few hundred square metres – often even a few acres of farmland.

But no need to travel all the way to the festival on the last weekend in August to enjoy the sight of a spectacular gift temple. I’ve put together a best-of compilation for you. What’s more, you can have all the prizes delivered to your doorstep. And that’s without having to be thrown into the sawdust or chucking a stone as heavy as four solid-wood beer benches.

Grand prize: the bull

Unfortunately, our colleagues in logistics are unable to ship a majestic, real-life bull. But let’s be honest, who’d want one at home anyway? Here’s an alternative for you. In any case, ours are cheaper than the estimated 30,000 francs prize bull «Magnus vom Schönenberg» is said to be worth.

Other livestock prizes at wrestling festivals often include cattle and horses. Our shop has you covered for those, too. What’s more, they’re of the easier-to-clean and less odorous kind.

Fitness and well-being

The more important the wrestling festival, the larger the prizes. And the bulkier. I’m sure the prize-winning wrestlers will figure out how to shlep home a barrel sauna or a 5-person whirlpool. If need be, a two-axle trailer normally used for barns and mounted on to an SUV will do the trick.

Prizes from the fitness range including skis, bikes (with or without an electric drive) or fitness equipment are a little more manageable.

For traditionalists

As Swiss wrestling is rooted in the culture of alpine herdspeople and dairy farmers, gifts in line with this tradition are a must. Elaborately decorated cow bells, for example, will make for subtle decoration in the champion wrestler’s house bar. Alongside them, country house-style furniture is waiting to be picked.

Admittedly, the range at Galaxus isn’t particularly impressive in that department. To put it another way: no wrestler will be wowed by the number of search hits we produce for «cow bell». And while the country house-style chest of drawers «Jamb» is multifunctional, it’s more suited for an urban wannabe-wrestler’s apartment downtown.

For gardeners and very ambitious do-it-yourselfers

Courtesy of the prize table and with a little luck, wrestlers will find just what they need to fully equip their amateur workshop. The same goes for those who are thinking about starting their own gardening business. Sponsors of the gifts up for grabs at the Federal Wrestling and Alpine Festival are the companies that manufacture the respective equipment. Think experts in adhesive application systems or window manufacturers.

Here’s a small selection of exciting products that will make any prize table special:

By the way, the selection I’ve presented here does not correspond to the actual prizes at the ESAF 2022 in Pratteln. Just in case you hadn’t copped on to that yet. If you’re curious to see what the wrestlers can win, I’d recommend visiting the «Gabentempel» and «Gabenbistro» on the festival grounds – admission to these is free. A dome with a diameter of 46 metres and a height of 14 metres was erected especially for this purpose. Find more information about the temple of gifts on the festival grounds here. By the way, they’re already open to the public.
