Find the right lawn mower

You need a new mower, but the choice is slowly wearing you down? No problem, I'll take you by the hand and guide you to the perfect model.
The blades nestle against bare feet like a soft carpet. They are perfect for relaxing tanning sessions as well as intense football matches. You don't have to go far - just step outside the house.
Despite the growing popularity of natural gardens, lawns are still favoured by most people. However, the dense, bright green and short-cut lawn needs to be maintained. Your most important helper here is the lawn mower. In summer, it is used up to once a week. It's important not to simply go for the first one that comes along, but to think about a few factors.
How big is your lawn area?
Probably the most important criterion. It makes no sense to buy a ride-on mower for two square metres of lawn. Conversely, you probably shouldn't buy a hand lawn mower for your hectare-sized property. Electric lawn mowers can be used up to a lawn size of 500 m², above this they can overheat. Battery-powered mowers are also suitable for this radius of action. From 300 m², a petrol mower is suitable. This has a powerful engine and a large average cutting width, allowing you to make faster progress. A ride-on mower is only worthwhile from a garden size of around 1000 m², as it is associated with high costs.
What is your lawn like?
In addition to the size, the condition of your lawn also plays a role. If it is characterised by many uneven areas, interruptions and slopes, a corded lawn mower is annoying. The cable takes away your flexibility in handling. In this case, opt for a petrol or cordless lawn mower.
How perfectly should the grass be trimmed?
There are generally two cutting techniques for lawn mowers: cylinder mowers and rotary mowers. Reel mowers work like scissors and therefore produce the most accurate result. If a tidy English lawn is your standard, you should go for one of these models. Unfortunately, we only have one battery-powered model, the rest work manually and are therefore more suitable for gardens of up to 250 m².

Sickle mowers cut the grass using a rotating blade bar, which cuts the blades at a high rotational speed. Long grass or uneven ground are no problem for this type of mower. It only sometimes struggles with very short ornamental lawns. It is available as an electric, battery and petrol mower.
How high can the noise level be?
Do you live hedge to hedge with your neighbours and are they also sensitive to noise? Then an electric lawn mower is more suitable for you. It is generally quieter than a petrol mower, but there are differences from model to model. However, it is not always easy to find out the noise emissions, as many manufacturers do not specify them. It's best to ask or read the reviews of other users. The following models all cut your lawn almost silently.
Is environmental friendliness important to you?
Don't want to contribute to the greenhouse effect while mowing? Then don't get a petrol engine. But you can still get something out of electric mowers if you pay attention to power consumption in a small, flat garden. Even 1000 watts of power is enough. However, manual mowers that work solely with your muscle power remain the most environmentally friendly.
How comfortable are you?
You want your lawn to look immaculate, but don't really want to lift a finger? Then take a look at the robotic mowers. They move back and forth across the lawn independently within a perimeter wire that is laid in the lawn beforehand according to their programming. However, they are not suitable for every lawn. If the incline is too steep, the grass too thick or the lawn too uneven, many models fail because they lack the necessary power. Only the "Automower 435X AWD" from Husqvarna should be able to cope with this.
This category also includes the question of whether your mower should have a grass collector. This eliminates the need to rake up after mowing. The larger the collector, the less often you have to interrupt your work to empty it, which is particularly useful for larger gardens.
What is often underestimated is the maintenance effort of the machines. Manual, electric and cordless lawn mowers are virtually maintenance-free. With petrol models, however, you need to regularly check the oil level, spark plugs and air filter. For ride-on models, the tyre pressure, V-belts and mower deck also need to be checked.
