Pia’s Picks: design pieces made of travertine
Travertine has been quietly developing into a decoration favourite over the last few months. But I’ve only just hopped onto the travertine trend bandwagon, as I’ve discovered that it allows me to create a Zen home.
I knew it was coming, I just didn’t know when. And now it’s here – my love for travertine. How can I be so sure? Well, by my watch lists, likes and pins of photos showing design pieces made from this beautiful natural material. What else does this limestone that’s often found near mineral springs have to offer apart from good looks? Here’s a summary:
- Aesthetics: travertine looks like marble with a softer, timeless pattern.
- Adaptability: warm yet subdued, it’s perfect for creating a zen-style home or for calming eclectic interiors.
- Uniqueness: travertine is a natural porous material, making every piece unique.
- Heat resistance: it remains pleasantly cool even in high temperatures.
- Resistance: travertine’s weatherproof and resistant to scratches and wear and tear.

I’ve already pinned a small selection of travertine treasures to my Galaxus watch list. My favourites – coffee tables. However, they need to be particularly well looked after, as stains are difficult to remove from this porous material. That’s why travertine tables are usually sealed with synthetic resin for protection. And it’s a good idea to use coasters, too. I’ve already created a watch list with coasters I like and will share it with you soon.
