Bali Curls Hydrating Curl Cream

A year ago, I discovered the Bali Curls products and now they’re finally available at Galaxus. So I’d like to introduce you to my two favourite hair products.
On my train journey to Hamburg, I go through what I’ve packed in my head. I’ve forgotten something, I can just feel it. «Crap», I think to myself as the thought waves over me. I’ve left my hair products at home.
So, as soon as I get there, I storm into the nearest drugstore and grab the first products I can see with the words «curls» and «waves» on them. I’m holding the Hydration Cream and the Curl Defining Gel from Bali Curls and just happen to have discovered my current favourite hair products by chance.
And what’s even better, we finally added these hair care products to our range.

Bali Curls is committed to cruelty-free products. That’s why the range is vegan and not tested on animals. Both products contain ylang ylang flower extract, which is said to promote healthy hair growth and balance sebum production.
The first thing I notice about the Hydrating Curl Cream is the floral fragrance. I can make out notes of flower meadow and subtle vanilla. Not too aggressive, but noticeable. The hair cream doesn’t feel sticky in my hand at all, it feels light. It reminds me of the Curl Up Perfecting Lotion by KMS California that I’ve been using so far. That costs three times more, though.

According to the manufacturer, the Hydration Cream is suitable for all hair types. I can’t say what it looks like on people with straight hair. The product hydrates my wavy hair. It also tames frizz. Applying the conditioner to damp hair after showering, makes my hair easy to detangle and comb.

The most impressive thing about this light product is that it doesn’t pull my waves down. Instead, it gives them bounce – just like a dip in the sea would.

I’m just as in love with the Defining Gel as I am with the Hydration Cream. Compared to Schwarzkopf’s OSIS+ Bouncy Curls gel, the waves don’t stick to each other as much and the product feels lighter. In terms of price, the products are in the same league. But, the Bali gel is creamier and I love the scent: it reminds me of freshly washed laundry and going to the hairdressers. It might be too intense for some people, but I can’t get enough of it.

After I apply the gel to wet hair, my waves have a bounce to them that I’ve never achieved with any hair gel before. With just three pumps of the product, I get a fantastic result – my hair’s voluminous and the strands aren’t rock hard. Even when dry, I can scrunch my hair into shape without losing the waves.

If I use too much gel, I can loosen the gel cast (the solid layer that forms around the hair) by scrunching it. This is possible without breaking up the entire wave structure.

The issue I have with the gel? If I use large quantities, my hair dries out at the ends during the course of the day. I’m still yet to discover the right oil for preventing this.
Another issue I have with this product is the packaging. I get through my care products quickly because I use them almost daily. As soon as the pump bottle’s three quarters empty, I can hardly get the rest out. Then I turn it upside down and get annoyed when the bottle falls over. Ugh. I’d prefer a tube at this point.

By the way, the Curl Gel’s supposed to be suitable for finger coiling and finger rolling. That is, when you style the curls by rolling up each strand of hair individually. And that’s exactly what I’m going to set myself as my next challenge. Who knows, maybe there are some gorgeous ringlets hiding behind my waves after all?
You’ve just started your hair care journey and want to know if the finger rolling method is worth it or if a satin bonnet protects your hair from breaking? Then follow me and you won’t miss out on any beach babe hair tips.
Painting the walls just before handing over the flat? Making your own kimchi? Soldering a broken raclette oven? There's nothing you can't do yourself. Well, perhaps sometimes, but I'll definitely give it a try.
