Nice and simple: 4 make-up products I always have in my bag this summer
When the sun’s calling, it’s okay to speed up your makeup routine at home. Sometimes I even take a couple of products out with me. After all, you can apply makeup on the go, too. Providing that they’re the right products, of course.
Admittedly, the sweltering temperatures are giving us that summer glow for free at the moment. Even so, products that make your complexion glow are really popular right now. And I’m joining in. How could I not – when they’re as simple and versatile as these four?
Disclaimer: The following recommendations are particularly well-suited for those with dry skin or anyone who truly enjoys a little glow on their face.
Glow Perfecting Serum Drops by Weleda
I recently tried out some of Weleda’s Serum Drops line – and ended up sticking with the Glow Perfecting Serum Drops. This lightweight highlighter contains light-reflecting pigments, nourishing sunflower oil and liquorice root extracts, which are said to help lighten dark spots. In my experience so far, however, I can’t comment on the latter.

Straight out of the tube, the product has an icy silver colour that initially looks cold and intense. When blended in with a brush or circular finger movements, the metallic effect gives way to a soft veil. I use this product under my make-up as a kind of primer that shimmers subtly through my foundation. One drop per cheek is enough. You can also mix the serum drops into a body lotion, day cream or matt foundation. Or you could dab a little of it here and there on your cheekbones, the curve of your lips and so on.

Face & Body Glow Balm by Essence
The sweet scent of coconut was the first thing that won me over. When Essence’s face and body shimmering bronzer balm comes into contact with your skin, it melts into a light, moisturising tanning cream.

Apply the cream to your entire face or neckline using a brush. Or you can use it like I do – like a regular bronzer, dotted in certain places. It’s best to wear it without foundation underneath. This is because foundation has castor oil in it which can quickly make it come off. The balm gives the skin a sun-kissed look. But be careful when you’re on the go: it can melt if it gets too hot. Plus, I wouldn’t recommend this product for people with very oily skin.

White Truffle First Spray Serum by D’Alba
The serum spray from the Korean skincare brand D’Alba has been a crowd favourite and global bestseller for quite some time. I’m just a bit late to the party. But at least I’m here now. This skincare product consists of a watery serum and an oily phase that floats on top. Shake well, spray and enjoy the fine, refreshing mist of moisture.

The formula contains white truffle extract, vitamin E, a blend of eight oils, and niacinamide, and helps balance the skin’s moisture and oil levels. The delicate, powdery scent completely captivates me, even though I usually prefer skincare products without fragrance.
You can apply the spray before, during or after applying make-up. Depending on the situation, it serves different functions. It works as a make-up primer, to dampen your sponge, to prevent your powder from looking dry, to moisturise your skin throughout the day and to revitalise your complexion with a visible glow.
Lip & Cheek Tinted Balm by Avry Beauty
Want to quickly apply some blush on the go? Avry Beauty’s multi-use balm is exactly what you need. I’m currently in love with Pink Me Up, a cool pink with an almost neon-like hue. The formula isn’t shimmery. Yet, the paste leaves a silky sheen and is easy to blend in quickly with your fingers. Don’t be alarmed, the colours may seem bold at first glance, but they look much more subtle on the skin. In this case, less is more when it comes to quantity. If you want, you can also apply the product to your lips. I prefer putting it on my cheeks.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
