Choosing the dining table that’s right for you begins with knowing how many people will be using it regularly.

My flat isn't huge, so I decided to buy a dining table that can be extended with two additional parts. Have I ever regretted this decision? Not in the slightest. My dining table is compact, looks light and airy with its round shape and – if spontaneous guests arrive – can be extended in no time at all, making it possible to seat up to eight people. I'm sure you have similar or the same expectations. Which is exactly why you should first think about how many people will regularly take a seat at your dining table – even before thinking about its looks or material.

Tables for two: 70 – 120 cm in length

Tables that aren’t longer than 120 cm are ideal for a breakfast for one or a cosy dinner date. The usual calculation of space per person is 70 cm x 40 cm.

You’ll need a table that’s at least 200 cm in length if you’re planning to host six guests. Any smaller and your dinner party might turn out a bit too cosy. If you usually host fewer than six guests, a 180 cm table is large enough.
