Best of beauty: my December favourites

At Galaxus, you’ll find over 80,000 beauty products. And counting. That’s quite a lot. Each month, I share my favourites from this pool of new launches and established classics.

My skin is currently playing the Grinch. It’s not happy; it doesn’t like the cold, the stress of Christmas, or wearing a mask. And it’s not afraid to show it. The result: more pimples, scarring, blackheads and even drier skin than usual. Luckily, this month I’ve discovered a few secret weapons to combat my skin’s grouchiness.

Shower oil from Balea

My shower basket is filled with nothing but the bare necessities: soap, shampoo, hair mask and a razor. Ok, maybe also a scalp scrub and cleanser. No room in there for a shower oil. That would be overkill. Or so I thought – until I tried the Balea shower oil, which was recommended to me by our social media editor Miona Zagoricnik.

Unfamiliar with the concept of a shower oil? Think of it as a cleansing moisturiser that you apply much like a shower gel. Balea’s product is suitable for very dry skin. It contains vegetable oils and smells like a cross between monoi oil and fresh laundry. A welcome addition to your typical body lotion in the winter. Oh, and it works great for shaving, too!

BHA Blackhead Power Liquid from Cosrx

I was lucky enough to have hardly any blackheads as a teen. Oh, how things change. In recent months, more and more blackheads have appeared, especially on my nose – despite my face care regimen and regular use of blackhead clearing strips.

To counteract this growing issue, I tested the «Blackhead Power Liquid» from the Korean skincare brand Cosrx. The serum-like liquid removes sebum thanks to BHA acid. And it works. I could see a clear difference after just five days. My blackheads appear smaller and lighter in colour. I apply the product to my T-zone after cleansing my face in the evening. Important: when using fruit acids like BHA, always apply sunscreen to avoid skin damage.

Cicaplast Baume B5 SPF 50 from La Roche-Posay

If a wound healing ointment and a mattifying sunscreen had a baby, it would be called «Cicaplast Baume B5 LSF 50». La Roche-Posay’s zinc ointment helps to regenerate sensitive, damaged and irritated skin. Despite its rich formula, the cream absorbs quickly and leaves a pleasant feeling on the skin. I always apply the product in the morning to any fading pimples to prevent permanent scarring and dark spots. Since I started using it, my pimples heal much faster. And it’s also suitable for tattoo aftercare.
