3 alternatives to sandals that go with skirts and dresses

If you love wearing light dresses or skirts whenever the temperatures allow, you probably don’t think twice when it comes to shoes. Sandals are the obvious choice – but also the boring one. Here are three alternatives that look just as good.

Sandals and summer go together like peas and carrots. But that doesn’t mean you can’t think outside the famous (shoe) box. There are various other models that also want to be part of the most beautiful season of the year. Being comfortable and casual, they more than deserve their moment of fame.

Loafers

Loafers are a symbol of the 1980s and they – like so many things from the past – are in great demand again. You’ll often see them paired with (white) socks. But loafers also go well with bare ankles. They give skirts and dresses, both short and long, an unexpected twist, offering a great contrast to a feminine silhouette and making you look more «dressed» than with open sandals.

Boots

Cowboy boots aren’t suitable for the boiling midsummer, but highly recommended before and after it. They also add a surprising element to your bare leg look and are a cool choice, especially for a night out. In timeless colours such as black or brown, they don’t overpower your outfit. If you’re brave enough to wear more unusual styles, go for red or white boots and you’re sure to turn heads.

Sneakers

You find loafers too formal and boots too extravagant? Luckily, trainers have become a favourite for all occasions. They even go with flowing summer dresses or airy skirts. Unlike sandals, they don’t feature abrasive straps, uncomfortable heels or unkind footbeds. Instead, they provide comfort and coolness. By the way, trainers also go well with ankle-high socks.
