Going off the beaten track can be worthwhile when it comes to shoes. Here are some beautiful summer shoes from unexpected brands.
When I need new shoes, I typically turn to a handful of tried and trusted brands that I know match my style.
This summer, I wanted a new pair of sandals – and I deliberately went looking for them outside my comfort zone. It was so worth it!
Högl
I’ve never owned any shoes from Högl, an Austrian manufacturer. Not lifestyle enough, I thought – bougie, even – and I didn’t think twice about it. But while rummaging through our range online, I came across a few models that immediately landed on my sandal wishlist. As it so happens, they’re all made in Europe. Another reason to keep Högl on your radar for future purchases.
Ugg
Granted, Uggs are much more common in my fashion circles. But only in the form of those iconic cosy lined boots or slippers. I had no idea the California brand had the kind of sandals I was looking for. These summery styles do without the characteristic sheepskin, relying almost exclusively on a thick treaded sole, which is super in style at the moment. Mind you, if you prefer a more delicate look, Ugg likely isn’t for you.
Camper
While Camper isn’t quite such a secret tip anymore, chances are you might not be familiar with the brand, which makes really cool stuff – and not just loafers and lace-up shoes, but also nice sandals. Its headquarters are in Mallorca, with production in Spain, Portugal and Vietnam. Whether they’re made of leather, recycled PET or bio-based plastic, most Camper shoes are characterised by their comfortable OrthoLite footbeds and EVA soles. Certain models even come with a lifelong quality guarantee.
