The thin Ortles Dyneema sling with low volume has a diameter of eight millimeters and a breaking strength of over 22 kilonewtons (kN). This 22 kilonewtons, or 2.2 tons, indicates the load at which the material fails. Dyneema fibers are known for their lightweight and strength – they are even lighter and stronger than steel and Kevlar.

The special color coding for immediate length recognition is used not only for the Ortles Dyneema slings but also for the Ortles Dyneema cords. The uniform color system in green, blue, red, and gray indicates the respective length and helps climbers and mountaineers quickly select the right equipment. The Ortles Dyneema sling is part of the standard gear for every climber and is used for building anchors as well as for intermediate or personal protection.
