Product details
The single-point chair by Hans Bellmann feels very familiar today, yet it is a bold counter-design to the prevalent Heimat style of the early 1950s. The Bellmann single-point chair is a milestone in Swiss design history and a highlight of Bellmann's work. Its significance lies in the unique attachment with just one screw, which gave the chair its name, and the flexible back of the plywood shell, which pleasantly springs thanks to a central opening. This opening also serves as a handle, similar to the traditional Swiss Stabellen chair. Additionally, the cutout conveys the chair's lightness and ergonomics. The Bellmann chair consists of only a few parts, is economical to produce, and weighs just 3.8 kilograms, making it exceptionally light. The designs of Hans Bellmann (1911-1990), influenced by his studies at the Bauhaus in Dessau and Berlin as well as his work in Mies van der Rohe's architectural office, are characterized by the most economical use of resources. The visionary is one of the most prominent pioneers of classical modernism in Switzerland. His single-point chair has been awarded the "Die gute Form" prize multiple times as "4015 ST.".
