Work jackets are more popular than they’ve been in a long time. In anticipation of spring, I’ve picked out the best styles from Carhartt, Dickies, Vans and the like.
The world of fashion can’t seem to get enough of utilitarian items of clothing. Cargo pants, bumbags and workwear jackets have experienced a considerable surge in popularity in recent seasons. Around a year ago, my colleague Laura Scholz wrote about the hype surrounding the most iconic of all work jackets: the Detroit Jacket from Carhartt WIP.
A must-have for transitional weather
According to the Lyst Index fashion ranking, this classic from the 1950s was one of the most popular fashion products last year. And the hype hasn’t died down. If anything, it’s heightened and spread to workwear jackets in general. That is, boxy, robust jackets in earthy tones, with a collar that sometimes stands out from the rest in terms of colour or material.
