Pia’s Picks: crazy about curves – sensual shelving for your home
Cupid’s arrow hit me as soon as I set eyes on these organically shaped shelves. Their sensual curves offer a great alternative to my usual type: straight shelves.
Rectangular rooms used to bother me, which is why I always went for symmetrical furniture that blended in well. I’ve now become more open-minded and find round, irregular shelving interesting. It creates an appealing contrast to the clean lines of modern rooms and creates a relaxed, inviting atmosphere.
Organically shaped shelves structure walls in a fun way and fit seamlessly into nooks and crannies. Their curves draw attention to certain areas or objects placed on them.

Wall shelves that break the mould are also a great place to showcase books, decorations and other objects, making your room appear more lively. This effect’s enhanced when you hang several irregular shelves on the wall. Furniture series including Veda from Dutchbone or Delia from Ringo-Living demonstrate this.

What I like best about my new crush? Its organic shape is an invitation to rethink traditional ideas of how a room should be used and furniture placed. And it inspires you to regard the living space as a more natural, imperfect environment. That’s why this might possibly be a great match this time.
In my Pia’s Picks series, I regularly showcase my favourite finds – things I might not need, but definitely want.
Like a cheerleader, I love celebrating good design and bringing you closer to everything furniture- and interior design- related. I regularly curate simple yet sophisticated interior ideas, report on trends and interview creative minds about their work.
