Pias Picks: Candles as wall charmers

Every candle glows when lit. But it only really shines when it has the right candlestick and background. That's why I'm so fond of the following pieces.

I've been wanting a lamp for the wall for a long time. Since it usually doesn't come without an annoying cable, I'm hesitant. As an aesthete, any kind of cable is a thorn in my side, and concealing it with major renovation work is out of the question, especially in my rented flat. That's why I need an alternative. I found it in stylish candle holders for the wall.

A suspended candleholder like the "Pipanella" design by Dottir decorates the wall like a picture frame and gently illuminates the room. Placed at eye level, it is also guaranteed to get more attention than a conventional model that stands forlornly around the room.

But I could also say the whole thing the other way round: walls also give each flame an elegant setting and make it stand out. For this reason, I like candlesticks at least as much that come with their own little wall. They are not a wall lamp substitute, but they give the light a stage.

The background accentuates the beautiful glow of the candle. If the wall is made of a shiny material like brass or copper, it will even be doubled. This way, you can create an accent on tables or shelves. The "Dash" candle holder by Kristina Dam Studio has three walls at the same time, which make the simple stick candle between them always look different depending on the angle. Designs like the Applicata candleholder called "Circle", on the other hand, can be a bookend at the same time thanks to their background.

Whether suspended or standing - candle holders on the wall or with a wall have another bonus. They are protected from the wind from at least one side.

In the series "Pia's Picks" I regularly share things that end up on my watch list because you might like them too.
