I’m obsessed with empties videos where people share which products they’ve used up and what they think of them. Today, I’m doing the same – in pictures and text.
I’ve been collecting trash for months. The empty packaging of used-up beauty products, that is. Whenever I finish a product, I toss it into the yellow, glittery flip-top box next to my desk. Why am I saving it? To give you my two cents.
For this article, I blindly fished eight products out of the box to revisit them, asking myself: would I buy it again?

Men+Care Advanced 72h Protection Clean Comfort by Dove
When I travel, I share a deodorant with my boyfriend. On our last trip to Italy, his spray was running low, so I took a gamble and bought us this one from Dove as a replacement at the local drugstore. Bullseye! It doesn’t smell overly masculine, unlike what I’m used to from men’s deodorants, and it reliably protects against odour. In fact, I kept using it even after coming back home to Switzerland. I’ve since emptied the can and have got a new one ready.
Wasser Lilie Deo by CD
I can’t back up the claim of 48-hour deodorant protection; the aluminium-free formula is simply too weak for me. Such a shame, because in terms of feel and scent, I’d have given this deodorant in a glass bottle a ten out of ten. Still, I found a satisfying use for it: in the evening, after showering, it gives a pleasant feeling of freshness that doesn’t clog the underarms and doesn’t leave a film I have to scrub off in the shower the next morning. I won’t be buying the spray again, though.
Taming Nourishing Mask by Rene Furterer
Since the bleach has grown out and my hair is living a healthy life, I find it particularly hard to judge products like shampoo, conditioner and masks fairly. How could I, when my hair is happy with almost anything? The same goes for this silicone-free shea butter mask. It’s actually meant to be an intensive treatment for very dry hair, and I’d describe its scent as warm cashmere. For me, it mainly made my hair softer and easier to comb through.
I do have one small complaint, though: inside the outer transparent jar sits a second, brown one that came loose every time I unscrewed the lid. I assumed this was because the design was supposed to be refillable, but I couldn’t find any suitable refill options online. On top of that, the mask is far too expensive for my liking.

Raise The Root by Color Wow
I can’t go without this thickening spray. I wash my hair and spray it onto the roots before blow-drying. It adds volume without weighing my hair down, and it makes all the difference when styling. This isn’t the first bottle I’ve gone through, and it certainly won’t be the last either. More on that here.
Vanilla Nectar Hair & Body Fragrance Mist by Phlur
May I introduce... Phlur, my favourite fragrance, hands down. Packaged in a 90-millilitre plastic bottle, this body spray is compact and travel-friendly without looking cheap. Vanilla Nectar is a modern gourmand scent that combines fruity sweetness with warm, creamy vanilla. I highly recommend it!
Radiant Creamy Concealer by Nars
I stopped using concealer under my eyes a long time ago. Somehow, I’ve come to like the faint shadows. Still, I’ve reached for this Nars classic again and again. Mainly for spot concealing – for covering small areas of redness and spots. The thick consistency and pigmented formula are particularly well suited to that. Every now and then, I’ve even repurposed the concealer as a foundation, though always mixed with a light moisturiser to tone down the coverage. The Radiant Creamy Concealer is a jack-of-all-trades that’s been with me for years and will continue to be.
Probio-Cica Glow Sun Ampoule by Skin1004
Now that’s what I call a sunscreen blockbuster! This fragrance-free product from Skin1004’s popular Madagascar Centella line promises an SPF of 50+ (PA++++). In addition to the formula, this cool detail won me over: a plastic tip reminiscent of an ampoule. It makes it easy to get just the right amount of sunscreen. The liquidy cream with niacinamide blends into a milky gel, works as a make-up base, and leaves no visible residue on the skin – just a natural satin finish. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat, if I didn’t already have enough other products to test on my table.
