Hanging photos is no piece of cake. You have to go over it several times to drill the wall in the right place, position the frame so that it doesn't tilt and make sure that nothing shows. Are adhesive nails the solution?
For me, drilling a wall isn't complicated. But when you move house, you have to fight to fill them in properly. In my new flat, I wanted to avoid drilling for just this reason. But over time, empty walls make me sad: I'd like to be able to take out my photos again. As a big first, I'm going to try and stage them without making a mess.
To this end, I've bought some Tesa adhesive nails and 3M picture hangers. I'd like to know which system will hold up better, as I still don't quite trust the manufacturers' promise: the adhesive strips must hold at least 2 kilos (more strips = more weight) and come off without residue on wallpaper and plaster.

Before placing the adhesive nails, the chosen spot on the wall should be cleaned with a clean, dry cloth. After reading the instructions, I take out the adhesive strips and stick them side by side on the wall, pressing them down. Use a spirit level. I pull on the protective strip while applying pressure. Once in place, I hang the picture with some restraint. But it holds well. This slight tension eased, satisfaction takes hold of me.
I don't even bother reading the instructions any more, as I find them incomplete. In this variant, the wall and the picture adhere to each other with Velcro. But the other Velcro part still has to be glued. I place one of the strips on the frame by pressing on it for several seconds and the other on my wall. It's a bit trickier than using Tesa nails, but I like the result better. The picture is straight, a short distance from the wall, and doesn't lean forward as it did with the first model of fasteners.
So far, so good. The most important test is yet to come for adhesives: removal without residue or damage. If it removes half the plaster, you might as well drill. With the Tesa model, you have to pull the tape down until it comes completely off the wall. It works perfectly. I do the same with the 3M strips, but this time I do it from the side. No problems there either.
I didn't really believe in it, but "gluing" frames allows you to replace the drill. The picture stays in place, the wall is intact and the assembly, very easy. The only downside is that if you want to cover an entire wall, you'll need to spend a lot of money, especially if your frames are large. For heavy canvases or mirrors, it's best to opt for traditional drilling.
