9 basics that aren't basic at all
Easy-to-combine basics are the foundation of any wardrobe. It's a misconception that they have to be boring to do their job. Here are three jeans, tank tops and cardigans - with a twist.
If you ask the internet about this topic, it claims to know that German wardrobes contain an average of seven to eight pairs of jeans. I can confirm this, as jeans are part of my basic wardrobe essentials. Next to them are piles of supposedly plain T-shirts, tank tops and sweatshirts.
If you're thinking «boring as hell!», you're underestimating the effect of small but subtle details. Because not all tank tops are the same and not all jeans are the same. What am I talking about? Watch out:
Tank top three times different
The sleeveless top with wide straps has many facets. It can be long or short, tight or wide, asymmetric or gathered, with cut-outs or patterns. So not only is everyone guaranteed to find a tank top to suit their personal taste - the possibilities for varying and combining are also almost endless.
Jeans with that certain something
In addition to different colours and washes, jeans also have a few aces up their sleeves or trouser legs. In addition to conventional 08/15 models - which also have their raison d'être - there are also models with sophisticated «special effects». These can be rivets framing the seams, a mix of two (or more) different denim fabrics or simply a surprisingly placed fastening.
Cardigans in all their diversity
Vertical button placket, bang, done? In theory, this could be the crude definition of a cardigan. In practice, much more is possible. For example, the buttons extend diagonally across the front or run down the side of the hem. Some styles do away with buttons altogether, preferring to rely on hooks and eyelets instead. In any case, the fact is that a well-designed cardigan is rarely boring. At most the wearer.
Always in the mood for good hits, great trips and clinking drinks.
