Horgenglarus Klio

Klio appears both contemporary and archetypal. The combination of traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge manufacturing technology makes the intricate geometry of this heavy wooden chair possible. The backrest, which seamlessly transitions into the armrests, is bent from a 13.8-kilogram piece of laminated wood—available in beech or oak—using a machine that is over 100 years old. After three weeks in the drying chamber, the backrest is shaped using state-of-the-art CNC technology and then finely sanded by hand. The elegantly curved backrest contrasts with the body, which features precise edges. With horgenglarus's own solid construction and the ergonomically shaped seat, a very comfortable armchair is created. The distinctive Klio brings a touch of poetry to the clear world of horgenglarus. It connects the formally divided collection, where rounded, organic shapes stand alongside angular, linear designs. Klio is a synthesis of both worlds. Klio is available as a chair with short armrests and as an armchair with long armrests. Klio was first presented in November 2014 at the Swiss Designers’ Saturday. The poetically mystical installation by Studio Hannes Wettstein was awarded the "Designers’ Saturday Silver Award 2014.".
