5 simple styling tips to nail that winter layer look
by Stephanie Vinzens
Layering clothes is normal in winter. And it can even look good! Here are a few cool looks.
When the temperatures are freezing, the onion principle is essential. Of course, it takes a little time and creativity to intelligently combine several layers when getting dressed in the morning. If you get it right, you'll achieve a look that's both stylish and functional. And the different layers will add an original touch.
Here are five tips I wrote last year. They've lost none of their relevance:
To give you some ideas, here are three looks that are easy to replicate.
"My outfit looks like it's made up of 500 layers," jokes influencer Agnes Pusztai. This composition is particularly successful. Indeed, the clothes underneath are partly visible, which adds pep. And because the coat has a wide cut, it doesn't constrict at all. Finally, the clothes are sober and the colours are neutral. So the whole look remains relatively minimalist.
Wearing a blazer and a coat may seem like overkill. However, this combination makes for very practical winter looks for professional life. That's what influencer Caroline Lin proves. To ensure your blazer isn't too tight, consider wearing a thin, relatively fitted jumper. Another tip: your coat should be cut generously, especially at the shoulders, to accommodate your blazer underneath. You can choose a coat that's one size larger than your normal size, or go straight for an oversized model. If you're worried about the cold, add a thermal shirt under your jumper. This will give you four layers of clothing and keep you warm in winter.
Woolen V-neck jumpers quickly give an old-fashioned impression, especially when worn with a blouse or blazer. Yet they're perfect for layering. The neckline draws attention to the bottom layer. The key is to combine them cleverly. A wool V-neck jumper worn with a t-shirt and leather jacket is very cool, as proven by influencer Lucy Williams. White t-shirts aren't the only option. The V-neckline sets off the colour of the top nicely. To avoid shivering, wear a well-lined leather jacket or thermal T-shirt as a first layer.
For each outfit, don't forget to add a large scarf. Nice and effective against draughts. Any stylish ideas for your scarves? Here are some:
