Why you need a security blanket
Baby’s love it, so why wouldn’t adults? Security or safety blankets are a great way to warm up and feel safe and cosy.
Whenever I’m feeling a bit chilly at home, the first thing I do is grab an extra layer out of my wardrobe. But sometimes not even a big woolly sweater will do the job. That’s when I go for my cuddly blanket. My blanket’s also my trusted companion when I’m having a bad day. I wrap myself in it and curl up like a hedgehog to regain my strength. It really works wonders.
Security blankets are miles ahead of radiators. Not only do they beautify your home, they’re also have a great look and feel to them. From a young age, your security blanket is a source of warmth and physical comfort. That’s why it’s also used by therapists to help relieve anxiety symptoms in patients. The blankets are made of heavy fabrics or have small incorporated weights. There are also some examples of furniture such as the "Sumo Chair" by Signe Øland Iversen that serves to counteract anxiety. The lounge chair features soft, upholstered back and armrests you can wrap around yourself like a blanket when you’re sat. This feature is intended to imitate a hug.

Anxiety or not – everyone could do with a little comfort. That’s why I’ve picked out a particularly generous and soft fleece blanket from «Eagle». It would also make a great bedspread. Personally, I use it on my sofa. The soft pastel colour makes it very adaptable to its surroundings. I really like that because I enjoy subtle colours when it comes to interior design.

And it’s not just the cuddly blanket that’s nice. So is the brand that makes it. Eagle is one of the few manufacturers that have remained loyal to their location over the years – in spite of globalisation. Although the name Eagle has an American ring to it, the brand is based in Hof, Germany. It is there that the textile company has been manufacturing products from natural fibres such as merino wool, silk or cashmere since 1893. To make fabrics like the one my «Tony» blanket’s made of, some steps are still done by hand. For example, this includes the chain seam, which nicely frames the blanket and adds a nice touch.
Like a cheerleader, I love celebrating good design and bringing you closer to everything furniture- and interior design- related. I regularly curate simple yet sophisticated interior ideas, report on trends and interview creative minds about their work.
