Light, airy and stylish: "Breezyblanket" summer blanket tested

The "Breezyblanket" is supposed to feel like a fresh summer breeze on the skin on hot nights - at home and when travelling. I'm going to find out if that's true.

No matter how hot it is, I can't sleep without a blanket. It calms me down when I'm wrapped up. And during the day, a covered bed looks better. Because like a good outfit, a stylish bedroom unfolds layer by layer with pillows and blankets. But on sultry summer nights, my current set-up gives me a hard time. That's why I'm always on the lookout for a design for an airy cocoon that doesn't leave me and my bed naked.

The first impression

The Single Blanket arrives like a gift: Its black box with bronze-coloured lettering looks classy.

Before our first night together, however, the "Breezyblanket" first goes into the wash at 40 degrees, then straight into the tumble dryer. It survives both unscathed, but has a few more wrinkles than before. Nevertheless, I decide against ironing them. This emphasises the casual look.

On sultry summer nights

Relaxsound advertises that the "Breezyblanket" with its 577 grams is suitable for travelling. And indeed: although the blanket is three-layered, it can be folded up as compactly as my beach towel. So I can well imagine packing it in my suitcase for my next trip. After all, what could be better than having your own blanket with you in other people's hotel beds?

On cool (Swiss) summer nights

The bad news first: because the temperatures in Switzerland are fluctuating wildly at the moment, I'm taking the down duvet out of the wardrobe again on some of the days I tested it. The good news is that the "Breezyblanket" doesn't end up in the wardrobe. Instead, I use it as a throw to give my bed a splash of colour. Because I really like the intense raspberry colour.

A detail that is missing

Although sleeping with the lightweight sheet feels good, I miss a larger size. Not because I share the blanket, but because I would like it to cover my 180-centimetre-wide bed during the day. There is a larger version in the collection, but only in a different colour. Relaxsound says that the Double Blanket is only on the market in a more subtle colour because the Single Blanket sells much better.

In a nutshell

Good balance between warmth and refreshment

"Breezyblanket" feels more comfortable against the skin than the lightest sheet. With this model, I enjoy the comfort of a cosy blanket that is also so thin that I can take it with me when travelling. The three-layer structure provides a fresh breeze on balmy summer nights, while the layers of air between the fabric layers provide optimum insulation.

The "Breezyblanket" in Berry doesn't leave me naked, but my bed does. As the blanket is only available in a single size for one person, I can't share it, which I don't mind. I would just like it to be bigger for aesthetic reasons so that it covers the whole bed during the day. The price is also not without its drawbacks. Fitted sheets made from high-quality cotton fabrics in a similar size are available for less than half the price - even if they lack the beautiful hem and the shawl character.

Pro

  • ultra-soft fabric
  • Folds up small and lightweight
  • Washable at 40 °C and quick-drying
  • beautiful colour

Contra

  • limited size selection
  • somewhat expensive
