Tips from our editors: gifts for beauty buffs

In the world of beauty, the line tends to be quite blurred between good-for-nothing gimmicks and practical products. Here are five gift ideas for almost anyone.
Beauty lovers typically own more than enough products. So what do you give someone who, if we’re being honest, doesn’t actually need anything? I’ve picked out five products I either really enjoyed using or still use to this day. These are products that won’t be secretly regifted after Christmas – at least I hope not.
Make-up brushes
Back when I was new to the world of make-up, I was in desperate need of a solid selection of affordable brushes. My first port of call was the brand essence. Although I now own more expensive, professional brushes, I still find myself purchasing a new essence brush every now and then. The fact is they offer unbeatable value for money. Whether you’re a make-up beginner or pro, you can’t go wrong with essence brushes. Larger sets, like the «The Glowin’ Golds» one, are rather atypical for the brand and therefore a rare commodity. «The Glowin’ Golds» includes five golden complexion brushes and six brushes for the eyes. All are made of synthetic fibres and are vegan.

Lip care
All you need is lips to fall in love with the Lip Sleeping Mask from Korean skincare brand Laneige. It outshines any conventional lip balm. How so? It has a rich, silky smooth texture, contains shea butter and vitamin C, makes dry skin flakes disappear overnight, adds shine to your lips and fills in fine wrinkles. Oh, and it smells amazing – like berries! I, for one, would love to have one of these little jars for my nightstand drawer, one for my purse and one for the bathroom. But given the price, I’ll have to make do with just a single pot.

Another great option is the «Afterglow» lip balm set from Nars. Afterglow lip balms are the perfect blend. They provide a touch of colour, a subtle glow and plenty of care for your lips. It’s a product I always keep handy in the office. By the way, you can also pick apart the set – a great option if you’re looking to give several people a nice little gift.
Cleansing balm
As far as I’m concerned, cleansing balm is the mother of all make-up removers. The thick, almost waxy texture of the Clinique «Take The Day Off» cleansing balm is a very gentle make-up remover that gives my skin exactly what it needs at the end of a stressful day: a nice little breather. Simply massage it onto dry skin, moisten your fingers and continue massaging. With the addition of water, the waxy balm turns into an oil. Simply wash everything off with lukewarm water and you’re done. I even use it to cleanse my face when not wearing any make-up.
Hair dryer
Do have an excess of money at the end of the year and want to spoil your loved ones with expensive, luxury gifts? Then this last gift tip is for you: the Dyson «Supersonic» hair dryer – a personal favourite. It’s outrageously expensive, outrageously fast at drying hair and outrageously good-looking. You can read all about this hair dryer and why I say it’s worth the money in my review.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
