New to the make-up game? These 5 brush brands are perfect for getting started

Looking for make-up brushes? Then you've come to the right place. I'll introduce you to five of my favourite brands that are an excellent first port of call, especially for make-up beginners.
When I discovered my love for make-up, I ignorantly ignored the topic of brushes. My focus was on the cosmetics themselves, not the tools, which I dismissed as an annoying and unnecessary expense. But I soon realised that fancy eyeshadows, bronzers and the like don't really come into their own if I don't apply them correctly. The small applicators supplied turned out to be useless for the most part.
Since then, I have gained a lot of experience with different brands and treasure every single brush in my drawer. I can recommend the following five brands - especially if you are completely new to the brush cosmos. Quick info beforehand: You won't find all brands in our range.
Basic, affordable and useful: Ebelin and essence from the drugstore
The dm own brand Ebelin is a good first port of call. It has a manageable number of individually purchasable, inexpensive models for the complexion and eyes on sale. So you don't buy unnecessary brushes just because they are included in the set.
The brand essence also offers you good value for money with a limited individual selection. While Ebelin has a stable basic range, in my experience the range at essence fluctuates from time to time. This means that the type of brush currently available varies from half-year to half-year. It's worth keeping an eye on the changing, limited edition collections in addition to the standard range. That's where you'll find one or two brush gems. Around Christmas, entire brush sets are also available.

For the playful: Spectrum Collections and Real Techniques
You want basics, but not boring? Then the Spectrum Collections brand is worth considering. It is known above all for its extensive range of colourful sets. Including numerous collaborations with Disney and make-up artists. If you have a soft spot for merch and don't want to buy your brushes individually, you're sure to find what you're looking for here. However, you will pay a little extra for the design and the franchise.

You can also find various sets and numerous individual models from the OG brush brand Real Techniques. Admittedly, the brand has faded into the background in recent years and its glory days - at least in terms of marketing - are behind it. But that doesn't make their brushes any less suitable. A small note: Real Techniques' designs are usually chunky. This means that their handpiece is cut wider. If you want to fit several of them in a cup or toiletry bag, it will quickly become cramped. I can particularly recommend the orange make-up sponges. I think they are better than the pink original from Beauty Blender.

Definitely an investment: Mykitco
Are you willing to spend a little more to get the perfect brush for your features and needs? Mykitco is a brand from the UK that specialises in equipment for professional make-up artists. Nevertheless, it may be worthwhile for you to take a look online. Because you really can find everything here in every conceivable design. However, the products are correspondingly expensive. As the selection is huge, you need to take your time to find the right models. The good thing is that their website has lots of information, videos and application recommendations for each individual product. While the brands listed so far all rely on synthetic brush hair, you can also find human hair brushes at Mykitco.
Mykitco always has major sales throughout the year that you can take advantage of. Especially if you're after one of the high-priced sets.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
