Switzerland searches for solar panels, candles, coffee balls and Lego

The energy shortage is leaving its mark on the search bar on Galaxus. Five of the top ten most entered terms in August and September are linked to the fear of a blackout. And those individuals who’ve had enough of the news flood seem to have retreated to the basement with boxes of Lego or a Playstation.

Europe is groaning under the effects of the energy shortage. As prices skyrocket, consumption needs to be curbed. Intense media coverage and discussions around the dinner tables of the nation have left their mark on Galaxus’s search bar. In German-speaking Switzerland, five of the ten most frequent search terms in August reflected the concerns of the population. In second to fifth place: power banks, gas stoves, candles and solar panels. Tenth place is held by Ecoflow. The brand makes power stations and solar panels, which are currently highly sought after.

September has continued to see Galaxus customers enter thousands of search requests for power banks, solar panels and energy-saving kettles. The product types mentioned above ranked fourth, sixth and seventh from the 1st to 21st of September.

Meanwhile, the French-speaking part of Switzerland is also preparing for the colder months. In August, search entries for power banks, Ecoflow and candles were roughly on the same level as in German-speaking Switzerland. And in September, solar panels joined the top ten.

Lego for homebodies

The number one search term on Galaxus this summer was «Lego». It seems that the heatwave and the flood of news has made many Lego fans distract themselves with their construction sets. What’s more, Lego has increasingly started to appeal to adults in recent years. The most popular sets currently include a painting by Vincent van Gogh, a replica of the Saturn V rocket and a bonsai.

These last days have also seen many people search for notoriously hard-to-get items including Sony’s Playstation 5 Apple iPhones – and Coffee B machines. Migros’ coffee innovation has generated both countless search entries and soaring sales. While the coffee machines are still available, the compostable balls that go with them are completely sold out. The next batch is in sight for October.
