Hello Sunshine: how to protect yourself completely from the sun
Putting on sun cream should be a daily routine as natural as brushing your teeth. Wherever you spend the summer - on the beach or in town - all kinds of surfaces, sand, water or concrete, reflect the sun's rays. Don't underestimate the importance of good sun protection and prevent premature skin ageing. Here are some of our favourite products for body, face and hair, so that you're perfectly equipped.
To do before and after sunbathing
- Prepare your skin: we recommend a peel before applying any type of cream, so that it penetrates better. In fact, this treatment significantly reduces the depth of wrinkles and promotes the absorption of active substances.
- Apply sun cream early enough: it takes around 30 minutes for body and face care products to take full effect. We therefore advise you to apply them while you're still at home.
- Too much is better than too little: apply more of the sun cream than your usual body care products. In fact, the less you put on, the less protected you are. Fear not, the days of sunscreen leaving white marks on your skin are well and truly over.
- Again and again: those who like to spend long hours in the sun should reapply sunscreen at least every two hours. We also recommend you do this after every swim, even though most products are water-resistant.
The face
Skincare
The daily skincare creams on the market are very effective. As well as having a sun protection factor of 15 to 50+, they are highly moisturising, they tone and give you a clear complexion, and they have a mattifying effect that prevents the skin from sticking and shining, unlike sun creams for the body. What's more, there are natural cosmetics with a discreet fragrance that favour mineral sunscreens. Thanks to their airtight bottles, they can be reused the following year, until not a single drop remains.
Make-up
Even make-up fights against harmful rays. A good day cream and suitable products will help protect you from UVA and UVB.
Lips
These little lip balms are compact and practical. They offer optimum protection against UVA and UVB rays in all weathers and have a satin effect. There are also natural variants, like those from Laboratoires de Biarritz, developed in collaboration with surfers and designed for extreme weather conditions. If you fancy a touch of colour, use lipsticks with sun protection. Simply apply them over the balm. They beautify while protecting your lips.
The body
Protect your body from sunburn by applying sun cream. Depending on your preference, opt for the tube, stick or spray version. It protects the most sensitive areas such as the décolleté and hands, is generally water and sweat resistant and sometimes even has an anti-ageing effect.
Hair
Your hair deserves protection from the rays too. Use a protective spray before exposure; it also works as a styling product. Your hair will shine and feel softer. Also wear a hat to cover your head and avoid sunburn.
After sunbathing
After-sun care is the key to a long-lasting tan. The more attention you pay to your skin, the happier you'll be with your tan. Your hair will also need extra care after a dip in the pool or ocean. If you've had a bit too much sun, we recommend using natural remedies such as aloe vera gel or plain yoghurt and tomato slices. Spread this copiously over the redness and leave the skin to cool.

After Sun

No sun protection is 100% effective. Even if you spend the day in the shade, under a parasol or umbrella, the bare areas of your body still receive up to half the UV rays. So it's a good idea to buy basic accessories such as swim shirts and a hat. And if you want a golden complexion without exposing anything to the rays, there are some excellent self-tanners to apply evenly to the face and body.
