Francophones, francophiles, we know where you come from

After a few weeks of radio silence on our part - the time we needed to scrutinise your responses, criticisms, comments, suggestions and compliments - we're back with something new. But first of all, we'd like to thank you warmly for taking part in our little survey.

Vive la francophonie

This is it! We couldn't wait to find out a little more about you, and now we have. You, dear French-speaking community, have come forward with great enthusiasm. Judging by the responses you sent us, French-speaking Switzerland is in the limelight, with the cantons of Vaud, Jura, Neuchâtel, Valais and Fribourg. We knew we could count on your presence and we were not mistaken. So thank you very much. We'd like to take this opportunity to remind you that French is considered to be the main language of around 22.7% of the Swiss population, or, to prove Damiano right, more than 20%. So yes, we hold our own against German ;)
We also take a quick moment to say hello to all the other French speakers from Lebanon, Quebec and France. We didn't think we would resonate so well.

A button in the comments

You've all praised our translation efforts and highlighted the need to improve the comments section. For example, many of you would like to see a button to activate the automatic translation of a comment, which would obviously encourage the French-speaking community to take more part in exchanges with their neighbours in outre-Sarine. You can imagine that we were quick to submit the good idea to our engineering teams, who, incidentally, are very far from twiddling their thumbs. Nevertheless, the idea is gaining ground. And as soon as we know more, we'll get back to you.

We the translators

Our job, broadly speaking, is to make communication easier for you. We could, at your request, explain this or that aspect of our profession as translators. Your comments have revealed a certain curiosity on your part. If you'd like to know how we go about our work, what tools we use to carry out our tasks, why a translation - whether from German into French or German into English - remains an exercise as perilous as it is time-consuming, get to your keyboards!
