Community top tip against hard skin

I want baby-soft feet! Thanks to a tip from a nameless user, I now know which product will help me achieve this.

I tried getting rid of the excess skin with a mixture of corrosive mouthwash and vinegar, but it was in vain. Believe me, this won’t get rid of your hard skin, regardless of what Pinterest’s trying to tell you.

But what my failed self-experiment did earn me was a Community member’s tip to use a thing called SkinRepublic:

User Anonymous recommends the foot peel mask by SkinRepublic. According to our product managers, it’s also popular with other users. At least that’s what the sales numbers say. This single-use foot mask claims to peel off dead skin within seven to ten days after use with the help of fruit acid. The manufacturer says that results may vary depending on the amount of hard skin.

I want to test the product.

How it works

First off, I wash and dry my feet. The «socks» in the packaging are sealed at the top. This prevents the skin care product inside from spilling.

The foot masks look like butterflies and need to be separated in the middle.

To cut them in two, I fold them vertically along the middle and cut off a five-millimetre strip. Now I have two socks. I pull them over my feet and do the socks up with the sticky tape that goes round my ankles. Walking will not be possible from now on. So I get comfy on the sofa and elegantly place my feet on a mat made from a rubbish bag I cut open. A toilet break will be a mere fantasy for the next couple of hours.

Two and a half «Gilmore Girls» episodes later, and it’s time to remove the socks. The only question is. How do I make it to the bathroom? Should’ve thought of that before. My boyfriend offers to give me a piggy-back. I thoroughly wash my feet in the bathtub and realise that the fruit acid has totally ruined my freshly painted toenails. Patience is what I need now.

Don’t even try walking in them. They immediately tear.

What does it take?

On the seventh day after application, the first flakes of skin come off. I’m losing more and more skin every day. Areas include the back of my feet, my toes and my ankles. High socks are now an integral part of my outfit to avoid foot flakes being strewn across the apartment. The alternative would be to strap the vacuum cleaner to my back. On day 16, my feet are still snowing. I decide to soak my tootsies in warm water and scrub them with a callus file. The plan is to speed things up a little. And it works! There’s no more flaking after that. My feet shed everything they could.

So has all the hard skin gone? No. Although some parts of my feet are genuinely baby soft, others, such as my heels, are still a bit rough, albeit a lot smoother. I’m more than happy with the result. Using the socks requires little effort and a great excuse to veg out in front of the TV on a lazy Sunday afternoon. All you need to do is plan ahead, so you won’t have to flake on your next barefoot appointment.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
