Zero Pore? Medicube’s face mask lays it on thick – but it is really good

«Can you recommend a good face mask?» Up until now, I’ve regularly disappointed friends with a decisive «nope». Ask me today, and you’ll get a different answer.

I’m not usually into face masks. Most of them fail to meet my expectations. So they end up living an unused existence in my bathroom cabinet. So me using one on a regular basis really speaks for the product. The Zero Pore Blackhead Mud Mask from Korean skincare brand Medicube, for example. Its primary purpose is pore care.

The mud mask contains ingredients including...

  • AHA (glycolic acid): removes dead skin and improves skin texture.
  • BHA (salicylic acid): exfoliates the skin and unclogs pores.
  • PHA (polyhydroxy acid): improves skin tone and texture.
  • Bentonite and kaolin: clay types with adsorbing properties that draw impurities out of the skin.

How to use the mask

The subtly scented blue paste is easy to squeeze out of its tube and apply to the face. A thin layer after cleansing is all you need, as the mask needs to fully dry during three to five minutes. That’s when it works its magic.

Sometimes I apply it all over my face, sometimes just to my T-zone – depending on how my skin is feeling that day.

Once it’s dried, the rich Smurf blue turns sky blue. This is particularly visible in my T-zone, where the mask acts like blotting paper and absorbs excess sebum from my pores. All the dark spots that form are proof. Once the five minutes are up, I wash the mask off, using lukewarm water and circular motions. After use, my skin immediately feels smoother and clearer.

Don’t expect miracles, though. I feel this is particularly important to know when it comes to pore-cleansing masks like this one. Not to mention when labels like Zero Pore set standards so high, the product can only disappoint. Many people believe that this type of mask can draw all sorts of stuff out of your pores, and make pores vanish into thin air to boot. To be clear, the Zero Pore Blackhead Mud Mask only superficially cleanses your pores. In other words, it makes sebum filaments less visible. They’re essentially deposits of sebum and dead skin cells that form harmless blackheads on your nose, for example. If they’re not something you struggle with, there’s no need to spend any money on this mask.

The product was provided to me by Galaxus for testing purposes.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
