The No Make-up Make-up Challenge
by Armin Tobler
A little eyeshadow here and a liner there. Make-up can't be that time-consuming, thinks Armin and wants to know from me: What is it about make-up that takes up so much time? A self-experiment brings insight. And tears.
Applying "invisible" make-up is something Armin can do. After all, that's what we learnt in our last video. The aim was to apply our make-up as naturally as possible. That went quickly, because with this so-called "no make-up make-up" look, we only concentrated on the bare essentials: the complexion.
It's a different story when the make-up has to fulfil the requirement of being perceived by the human eye. In this case, time management is the first thing to fall by the wayside. For example, with colourful eye make-up. Armin wants to know from me:
Why does applying make-up with eyeshadow, liner, mascara and co. take up so much time?
Or to put it another way: Why is everyone who gets dressed up for a special occasion always late? Armin was allowed to work out the answer. In mid-October, we did our make-up together step by step at my home. He followed a template that I selected for him and I followed one that he chose for me.
You can find out who came how close to their template and how long the whole thing took in the video above. However, I would like to summarise the most important findings from the exercise here:
As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
