Bowling shirts, loafers and brightly coloured football shirts: shop the spring look
Need a tenuous reason to refresh your spring wardrobe? I’ll give you five.
After covering bold sneakers and glittery ballerinas, I’d like to centre my next shopping tips around menswear. Which, of course, doesn’t mean that only men can wear these items. To be honest, I’m wearing a football shirt and silver jewellery as I type. So, what else is on the list?
Silver jewellery from neck to wrist
If you usually consider your outfit complete with the basic trousers-jumper-jacket combo, you can actually make it more fun and impressive by adding some accessories. A chunky chain perhaps? Or a large ring? Give it a try and enjoy the lovely result – and the compliments.

Bowling shirts à la Charlie Harper
If you’re not sure what this means, just think of short-sleeved shirts. Or Charlie Sheen’s character, Charlie Harper from the series Two and a Half Men. He wore nothing but bowling shirts for eight seasons and would be totally on trend today. The boxy-cut shirts with short sleeves and (usually wide) stripes are an absolute must-have this spring and summer.
Brightly coloured football shirts
Do you remember when I was speculating about blokecore last summer? What can I say? The hype around football shirts off the pitch isn’t going anywhere. If you don’t already have one in your wardrobe, this season is the time to rectify that. Otherwise you’ll be getting a red card.

Crossbody bags to free up your hands
The mental checklist goes something like this: smartphone, keys, headphones, wallet. Obviously, you could stuff them all in your trouser pockets. But why should you when Uniqlo’s Mini Round Shoulder Bag has shown us crossbody bags are practical and for everyone. Freeing up your hands as well as your trouser pockets is especially important in ice cream season.
Loafers – best paired with socks
I’ve already issued a plea about loafers. But here I am recommending them again as part of this season’s wardrobe essentials list. You’ll struggle to find any other shoe that’s currently this cool. If you combine them with white socks or ones that match your outfit, I take my (sun) hat off to you.

Always in the mood for good hits, great trips and clinking drinks.
