Boosting your body and mind: dietary supplements popular with Galaxus customers

Many people supplement their diet. After triple-digit growth during the pandemic, the online department store continued on to sell 52 per cent more nutritional supplement products in the first quarter of this year. The top sellers are vitamin and mineral supplements as well as protein powders.

The dietary supplement section on Galaxus is diverse and currently includes almost 4,700 products – be it for effective muscle growth, to lose weight healthily, for strong nails and healthy hair, to combat that post-party hangover or for a daily energy boost.

During the pandemic, sales of such products on Galaxus exploded. In 2020, the online store sold 166 per cent more nutritional supplement products than the year before, and in 2021, it sold 108 per cent more than in 2020. And growth is continuing post-Covid. In 2022, 94 per cent more pills, powders and fizzy tablets intended to supplement diets ended up in the virtual shopping cart of Galaxus customers.

This trend has continued in 2023. In particular, vitamins and minerals, sports nutrition and nutritional supplements were popular in the first quarter of the year.

Fewer hangovers, better sperm

The reasons why customers order dietary supplements couldn’t be more varied. «Some went on a juice cleanse to detoxify their body and get a healthy start to the year – our sales figures from quarter one of 2023 show as much,» says Martina Tatavitto, Category Business Manager at Galaxus.

«Others stocked up on products that provide the body with essential nutrients after an intense workout – or a night of drinking,» Martina adds. Products for people who breastfeed or those meant to improve sperm quality also often ended up in customers’ shopping carts.

Dietary supplements were ordered on average 45 per cent more frequently in the first quarter of 2023 than in the same period last year.

A vitamin boost for Galaxus customers

Vitamins also boomed in the first three months of the year. Galaxus carries about 800 products providing our clientele with extra vitamins and minerals. The daily fizzy tablet or vitamin pill seems to be part of everyday life for many. «Vitamin gummies are also becoming more and more popular with us,» Martina said. In quarter one of 2023, sales of vitamin and mineral preparations increased by 63 per cent.

Creatine and protein – proven bicep boosters

Protein powders dominate sports nutrition, while creatine products have long since found their way from professional to popular sports. «When it comes to protein powders, the classic whey products are clearly ahead,» says Tanja Schütz, Senior Category Business Manager at Galaxus, adding, «Of course, we also have vegan alternatives in our range.»
