If you’re looking to change things up this holiday season, you could rethink the way you’ve been using Christmas tree decorations. Here are five creative alternatives worth exploring.

Christmas baubles are too pretty to just be hanging on trees. They’re highly versatile and can be used as table decoration, popped in a pretty glass jar or hung on branches. These alternatives create a festive atmosphere that’s contemporary and original. Time to give your baubles a new platform this year.

1. Mobiles

A minimalist mobile’s a great way to show off your Christmas baubles. Simply tie your ornaments to strings of different lengths and hang them on a pretty frame. Make sure the mobile’s well balanced so your baubles can move freely. Enjoy them swaying gently with every breeze, catching the light and creating a magical play of twinkling colours.

Decorative hoops, wreaths or rods provide perfect playgrounds to let your creativity run wild.

2. Wreaths

A hanging hoop adorned with baubles and Christmas decorations is a cool alternative to a door wreath. To make it work, wrap fir tree branches and a string of lights around the hoop, attach baubles from different heights and you’ll have yourself a merry little eye-catcher. Add a fancy ribbon as a final touch and hang it in the window. Alternatively, you could go for the Mistle hanging candle holder from House Doctor. It radiates light from above and fits perfectly in corners with no space for regular candle holders.

3. Glass containers

Pick out a few clear glass vases or bowls and fill them with Christmas baubles to add a festive touch to your table or shelf. Using different sizes and colours will add to the magic. Finally, add a string of lights to make everything come to life.

4. Branches

How about hanging your Christmas decorations from a branch you’ve collected in your garden or on a walk in the forest? This option is perfect for small spaces as it takes up less room than a traditional tree. Use ribbons or strings to attach the baubles and combine them with pine cones or dried flowers for a rustic but elegant look.

Garlands made from fir branches or other materials are perfect for decorating with Christmas baubles. Add fairy lights to create a festive atmosphere. Or get yourself the Leaf garland from House Doctor. Thanks to its golden metal leaves and white beads, your decoration will be really chic – whether you’re hanging it from a banister, fireplace or door frame.
