Do Christmas wreaths always look the same to you? Well, they needn’t. A simple decorative ring and a little imagination will transform the classic into something truly special – with or without evergreen branches.

Every year, furniture catalogues prove how cool Christmas wreaths can be. You can get the look with a simple decorative wire ring and a little inspiration. No time for a craft session? I’ve added some ready-made solutions to the following five suggestions.

1. The minimalist

Get one or two different-sized rings and tie them together with an elegant fabric or leather band. Add a knot, hang them to the wall – done. The simple shape alone will attract attention and goes perfectly with a modern look. Some models feature a candle, if you prefer a brighter version.

2. The softie

Fabric scraps + decorative ring = wow. Wrap fabric around a wire ring of your choice or tie it loosely to it. Go for velvet, linen or cotton and choose colours that suit your style.

3. The lightweight

Attach paper stars, origami or cut-out shapes to your ring and let them swing freely. Metallic paper or neutral tones such as white, beige and green give the wreath a contemporary edge.

4. The natural one

Dried flowers aren’t just a summer thing. Combine colours such as red, gold or cream and attach them loosely to the ring. This will create a modern but festive look.

Whether they’re on your door, the wall or in the window: dried flowers on a wreath are always an eye-catcher.

5. The luminous one

Wrap a simple string of lights around your wire ring for a cosy glow. Add a few small baubles or ornaments if you’d like a bit more glam.
