No. The water tank lid can be removed easily and has no play at all.

I can only confirm that. We've been trying to make a decent espresso for a few days now...for now, the pressure barely goes above 3 bar. According to x youtube videos, this has to do with coffee that is ground too coarsely. The home barista course from vitudurum.com in Winterthur costs CHF 160 and I will definitely attend it.
