Ideally, your foundation should glide over your skin like butter. If it doesn’t, this quick trick is for you.
Your foundation is difficult to apply with a brush and doesn’t want to blend in with your skin, despite a solid skincare routine that includes exfoliation? I know the problem.
Fortunately, I have the solution.
My favourite application tool at the moment is a dense buffer brush, like the one below from Essence. But there are days when the brush alone isn’t enough. That’s when I like to use this trick.

Moisten your brush with setting spray before use. Two spritzes from a distance of around 20 centimetres are all it takes. You should now be able to easily buff in your foundation for a seamless finish. Not quite there yet? Then add an extra spritz. If you don’t own a setting spray, some water in a spray bottle or an oil-free face mist will also do the trick. However, the advantage of a setting spray is that it’ll also help your make-up stay on longer.
This trick helps me achieve a more even application, especially with thicker foundations, stick foundations and matt foundations. It’s also great for dry skin. The damp bristles will thin out the make-up ever so slightly, making it easier to work in and preventing it from sitting on the skin like a mask.
Alternatively, you could use a damp make-up sponge for a similar effect. The downside is that it absorbs a lot of product in the process. The spritzing trick combines the advantages of a brush – a little goes a long way for great coverage – with the ease of application offered by a make-up sponge.
Sometimes it’s the details that make or break a hairstyle or make-up look. In my Blazing Beauty Tips series, I share useful techniques with you that I’ve either learned through my own experience or copied from the pros.
As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
