Who needs sock clips? I do!

Hardly anything knocks my socks off like sock clips do. Here’s my hymn of praise for this amazing laundry gadget.

I do many things because I enjoy them, some because I have to, and only a few with absolute reluctance. Doing the laundry belongs to the latter group. Especially pairing up socks. I don’t just dislike it, I’m actually sick of the sight of socks – my boyfriend’s and my (mostly) black socks, that is.

Finding the sock in the laundry stack

Oh, how much time I've wasted sorting through thirty almost identical socks! Believe me, I’ve been very close to just pairing up random ones. But my inner Monk – the same one who straightens the underpants on the clothesline – wouldn’t let me. So, as if on a dissecting table, I examined sock after sock, looking for details that would distinguish one from the other – the width of the waistband, type of stitching, or a clue to the brand. Not that we’re living that high-foot life.

A life-changing encounter

One day, I was about to throw in the towel and hand over the sock issue to my boyfriend. But then something happened that knocked my socks off. I had a life-changing encounter with a rock star – the Sockstar. And our socks became groupies.

Here’s how it works

That was the day when our lives took a turn for the better. Today, we no longer throw our socks into the laundry basket after wearing them. We clip them to a sock clip. That takes a second of self-command, but it’s worth it.

Clip it in on the left and on the right (or vice versa) – that’s it.

After spending some time in the laundry basket, the sock clip moves on to the washing machine. A gloomy place for a pair of socks. Many an intimately entwined sock couple has been torn apart in the washing machine hurricane – and never found their way back together. The sock clip puts an end to this sorrow.

I had a life-changing encounter with a rock star – the Sockstar. And our socks became groupies.

Like a lifebuoy, it holds pairs of socks together throughout the wash cycle. Afterwards, the sock clip can be hung directly on the clothesline. Once the socks are dry, I take them off and fold them together straight away. Easily done, as the two socks are already heart to heart, so to speak.

Here’s a tip from the Galaxus Community: if you want to save yourself some folding, you can also just store the socks as they are, with the clip.

As the socks are already on top of each other, they can be folded together easily once they’re dry.

A saviour with two tiny flaws

The Sockstar saves us a lot of time. I don’t know how much exactly. What I do know, however, is that this tiny clip is a true saviour – of lost socks, but especially of lost nerves.

Nevertheless, as much as I love the Sockstar, I have to admit the following:

  • I didn’t test the Sockstar in a tumble dryer. In our hot attic apartment, the laundry dries faster on the clothesline than in a tumble dryer. Does the sock clip stand the tumble dryer test? There are mixed opinions in the Galaxus Community. Some say the clips last for years, even if they’re put in the tumble dryer. Others say they get damaged more quickly.
  • The sock clip sometimes makes itself heard in a regular laundry drum. I can live with that. After all, a real rock star comes with booming bass.
My heroes: the Sockstars.

I like anything that has four legs or roots. The books I enjoy let me peer into the abyss of the human psyche. Unlike those wretched mountains that are forever blocking the view – especially of the sea. Lighthouses are a great place for getting some fresh air too, you know?
