What time is it? My middle finger will tell you

Who said a watch can only be worn on your wrist? I recently started wearing mine on my finger. Have a look-see!

Recently, I found myself at one of those events where you’re packed together like sardines, engaging in small talk with person after person, drink in hand. So there I was, politely listening to someone’s monologue, when my gaze fell on one particular hand holding a glass and sporting a tiny little watch on the middle finger. Silver, angular – and functional?! A few moments later, they looked down at their adorable little watch, declaring it was time to head off. It definitely was time – time for me to swap out my wristwatch for a ring watch!

My test model

Luckily, you can find pretty much everything on Galaxus. Even things you didn’t know you were looking for. And so I ordered my first watch ring that very evening.

The way the Fossil Watch Ring is presented in its tin box alone is so cute that I’m sold on it before even slipping it on!

The little watch comes with an integrated SR516SW battery, which is supposed to last two years. The stretchy band with a diameter of approximately 53 mm fits my middle finger perfectly. I have longer finger nails at the moment, and it’s a shame I couldn’t pull out the tiny knob to set the time. Luckily, my colleague Siri Schubert, was sitting just two desks over and helped me out.

Now we’re «always on time», my ring watch and I! Every time I catch a glimpse of it on my finger, my heart skips a beat (and I admittedly never tire of rubbing it in other people’s faces!)

But can I actually read the time off my middle finger? Yes! Since I look down at my hands while typing anyway, I end up reading the time almost by accident. And it’s a lot more comfortable than having to shake my wristwatch out of the sleeve of my sweater first.

Another plus as an office worker is that – unlike a wristwatch, which seems horribly bulky in comparison – the watch ring doesn’t constantly scratch and clatter across the tabletop. At just ten grammes, the small watch ring effortlessly floats over the keyboard on my finger and doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb from my other rings.

The cuteness factor

Do you need a watch ring? If you own a conventional wristwatch, smartwatch or smartphone, then, of course, not. But if you like to take breaks from your phone, don’t like smartwatches or, like me, simply can’t resist objects in unexpected sizes, you’ll love the watch ring.

I’ve been wearing mine for about five days now and have zero complaints. What’s your stance on finger watches: stroke of genius or pure baloney?

In a nutshell

The Fossil Watch Ring

This tiny little watch unfailingly brings me so much joy every time I check the time, show it off (again) or get questions about it. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do, namely display the time. And I’d argue it does so in the most charming way imaginable.
