Water from a spray bottle: unnecessary or worth the money?

Water from a spray bottle’s a blessing that does more than just help you cool down. However, there’s no need to buy a ready-made one like the ones from Balea, for example.

The other day, our Head of Content, Martin Jungfer, asked me if there are actually people out there who buy bog-standard water in a can.

Body cream, 150 ml

The answer is yes. I used to be one of them myself, but have since switched to a cheaper, less wasteful alternative. I’ll tell you more about it below.

If you feel like Martin, you’re probably dying to know why anyone needs this in the first place. I get it. After all, spending money on 150 millilitres of cool water is borderline decadent. Not to mention the ecological folly these disposable cans represent. However, in my cosmos, water in a bottle has more than a welcome cooling effect in these high temperatures. It’s also a great addition to your set of beauty tools. The fine mist is a great way to set your make-up. It’s also perfect to moisten your make-up sponge or keep it moist, without having to keep dashing to the bathroom sink. But these small, ready-made bottles empty faster than I’d like.

The solution’s pretty obvious

That’s why I got myself the kind of refillable spray bottle that’s used in hair salons. The type you can use even if you’re holding them upside down. I’ve popped it on my desk so it’s ready to use at all times. My bottle’s made by Comair and holds 250 millilitres. Originally, I thought I’d purchased a continuous spray bottle. In other words, a spray bottle that emits non-stop mist until you take your finger off the trigger. But instead, the Comair turned out to be a bottle with a long, drawn-out spray instead. It still serves its purpose, though. Namely instant cooling at the squeeze of a trigger. Add the breeze of a fan to that and you’re in heaven.

The bottom line is that any refillable spray bottle should do. Even a plant spray bottle (I haven’t tried it). But disposable water sprays, such as those made by Balea, are in fact superfluous. Meanwhile, I also use the bottle for other purposes. To spray my Monstera plant, for example. It really enjoys an extra helping of humidity. I also like to freshen up my hair with it when I can’t be bothered to wash it. To this end, I make sure my strands are nice and damp before restyling them with a hairdryer.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
