Pia’s Picks: a beautiful reminder to drink more water
Well-designed carafes are my friendly reminder to pour myself another glass of water. Without them, I’m sure I’d only drink half as much.
Carafes are more than just a simple tool for serving drinks. They also add a visual accent and – more importantly – are more beautiful than a sticky note with a reminder to stay hydrated.
I might not be able to stick carafes to anything, but instead, my eyes are glued to them – if they look pretty. That’s why I place them everywhere – in the office or in my home – paired with a glass. That way, I always have water at hand and am more likely to drink plenty throughout the day rather than just when I’m thirsty. But it doesn’t just matter where my carafes are, but also what they look like. I especially like coloured or patterned glass jugs such as the Polka Dot series by Kvetna and the Oli Jug series by Ferm Living that’s made of recycled glass. Air bubbles and varying structures make each piece unique.

I also really like the Jali jug by Oyoy with its speckled pattern. In white or amber and paired with matching glasses, it outshines plates, vases and coffee table books, helping my eyes to focus on the essentials. This includes regularly checking the water level. Glass jugs with delicate patterns allow me to see right away how much I’ve already drunk – or still should.
