«Overwatch 2»: our first impressions of this legendary hero shooter’s remake

«Overwatch» is dead, long live «Overwatch»! Although Blizzard has only just shut down its servers for the original Overwatch, its successor is already ready for launch. We’ll be blasting our way through the hero shooter in a livestream starting at 3 p.m. on Twitch and YouTube.

When it was released in 2016, «Overwatch» got off to a flying start. The game was praised by critics and Blizzard fans alike and managed to build a loyal fanbase within a very short time. In recent years, however, the game has been somewhat neglected by its creators.

Despite stable user numbers, the game didn’t get regular content updates, much to the frustration of many players. It’s already been two years since the last major expansion with new characters – unthinkable in times of constant content updates for live service games such as «Fortnite».

But this is allegedly all about to change with «Overwatch 2». The game promises new maps, new characters, new weapons and new game modes, including a PvE mode to appease the hungry «Overwatch» community. The days of loot boxes are also over. Instead, the game has a free-to-play option with time-limited seasons and battle passes, as already featured in other live service games. Long content dry spells should also be a thing of the past thanks to the regular seasons.

«Overwatch» veteran Phil and I will be playing a few rounds and firing all over the place with old and new heroes. Being the «Overwatch» noob that I am, I’m curious to see if the game will draw me in, or if I’ll give up on my hero shooter career in frustration after just a few rounds.

My love of video games was unleashed at the tender age of five by the original Gameboy. Over the years, it's grown in leaps and bounds.
