I want more of it! The gentle vitamin C serum from Dr Althea

It's the superstar of my morning routine - and I've almost used it up. Time to categorise my experiences with the "Vitamin C Boosting Serum".

In the morning after cleansing, I apply exactly two products to my face: first a vitamin C serum and then a sun cream. I have already presented enough of the latter here. So I'll spare you (for now) with further recommendations. As far as my current serum is concerned, I have a few words of praise to say ...

The bubbles in the pipette stand out beautifully in the backlight of my bathroom.

The «Vitamin C Boosting Serum» from Dr Althea

The texture has to be right. Otherwise, the products in my possession will go stale. The moisturising vitamin C serum from Korean brand Dr. Althea strikes the balance between a light yet viscous formula. It spreads beautifully on the face without any annoying dripping (which is the case with too-liquid versions), where it absorbs quickly and gives the skin an instant glow. Since I started using it, my skin tone has looked even and fresh.

The serum has no noticeable odour and is reasonably priced. Additional plus points for the high-quality glass packaging with pipette. It reminds me of an old pharmacy. The matte label adds a modern twist.

I recently gave the serum to my mum as a gift.

This is (not) inside

Let's look at the label for a moment. «63 per cent» is prominently displayed. A little misleading. You might think that the label refers to the vitamin C content. But that would be an extremely aggressive product. No, the 63 per cent refers to the ingredient sea buckthorn fruit water (Hippophae Rhamnoides Water), which forms the basis. In fact, the vitamin C concentration in this product (based on the list of ingredients) is rather low. However, the brand does not provide exact details. This favours a gentle formula that is suitable for sensitive skin.

Further ingredients include:

  • Tiger grass leaf water (Cantella Asiatica Leaf Water) soothes the skin
  • Niacinamide (vitamin B3) (5%) brightens a dull complexion
  • 8 types of hyaluronic acid provide long-lasting moisture
  • Tranexamic acid (2%) combats pimple marks and pigmentation spots

The serum is free from artificial colours or fragrances, vegan and cruelty-free.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
