I’ve replaced my dry shampoo with this face powder

My favourite dry shampoo isn’t really a dry shampoo at all. Read on to find out why I use a K-Beauty face powder instead, and why it’s better than any hair products.

Over the years, I’ve tried countless dry shampoos and have been disappointed every time. Some smell so strong that the scent overwhelms me as the day goes on. Others leave my hair feeling sticky or covered in a white film. Others again, and that’s even worse, leave a crumbly white residue on my head that looks a lot like dandruff. Not to mention the dry shampoo cloud. If you’ve ever accidentally breathed in the mist in a small bathroom cubicle, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

Fortunately, I’ve now discovered a product that solves all these little problems. And yet, it isn’t actually a dry shampoo at all. No Sebum Mineral Powder by Korean brand Innisfree is actually intended for the face, where it’s designed to absorb excess sebum and ensure an even complexion. It’s a K-beauty classic that I’ve been using for years and have repurchased countless times.

Discovered by chance

When I recently went on holiday without packing my dry shampoo, I tried using my face powder instead. And I was pleasantly surprised by the result. No pungent smell, no white residue, no unpleasant texture. Instead, the ultra-fine powder subtly absorbed all excess oil without any of the typical side effects of many dry shampoos. I also find it particularly handy when travelling that the No Sebum Mineral Powder serves two purposes at once, which helps save space. And it comes in a small and handy container.

It’s incredibly simple to use: you start by putting a little powder into the palms of your hands and then work it into your roots with your fingers. A powder puff works well as an applicator, too, but I wouldn’t use the same one you use on your face. For best results, give your hair a quick brush afterwards. The powder also works really well to freshen up a greasy fringe.

For comparison: the powder’s nice and compact.

Of course, the Innisfree powder isn’t a substitute for every dry shampoo. After all, many dry shampoos contain additional ingredients that add volume or have a gentle cleansing effect. The face powder just absorbs oil. Nothing more, but nothing less either. However, it does exactly that exceptionally well and looks and feels surprisingly natural, even on my dark hair.

In a nutshell

Two great products in one

Innisfree’s No Sebum Mineral Powder is a K-Beauty classic – and rightly so. As a face powder, it does its job reliably and provides a natural finish. On top of this, it also works surprisingly well as a dry shampoo. It absorbs excess grease and makes your hair look fresher in just a few seconds, without a strong scent, spray mist or visible residue. A real secret weapon for quick touch-ups.
