Foam up, fall asleep and prepare to be amazed? Taft’s novel dry shampoo appeals to the slacker in me

Dry shampoos are heroes. They do, after all, make life a tad easier during stressful moments. The question is, will Taft’s new freshness foam, supposedly capable of working miracles overnight, be as helpful to me?
Due to a hand injury, washing my hair has been at the top of my «seriously, who can be bothered with this?» list for several weeks. With this in mind, I dug out a dusty can of dry shampoo and staged the comeback of the year with it. Doing so allows me to delay the inevitable for at least a day or two. A few sprays of the powdery substance and my greasy strands give way to a hairdo that’s fluffy and voluminous at the roots.
Basically, the timing of Taft’s latest shampoo substitute couldn’t be more fitting. Because of my current predicament, «Overnight Frische Wunder» (overnight fresh miracle) piqued my interest. Especially since it’s a foamy dry shampoo. Spoiler: there’s nothing dry about it.

So how’s it supposed to work? You massage a small amount of foam into your hair before bedtime and wake up in the morning with a mane that looks like it’s been freshly washed. Or that’s the theory. On its website, Taft even describes the product as «more effective than other dry shampoos» on account of its longer application time. My lazy butt and I are counting on it.
The test
My boyfriend is first to fall victim to the foam. After all, I’m keen to test the waters before risking my own head and hair. The result is unimpressive. His hair looks just as greasy the next morning as it did before he went to bed. Looking on the bright side, he says, «At least it doesn’t look any worse than yesterday.» While this may be true, it’s definitely not what the «fresh miracle» is aiming for. Perhaps we didn’t use enough product.
When my turn comes around, I apply the foam a little more generously, working it into my roots until the substance disappears. During the night, my nose is continuously confronted with that typical styling product smell. I get that this is probably supposed to contribute to the freshness experience, but it does precious little for my sleep quality. With the smell gone the next morning, I run to the mirror. It’s a sobering sight. My roots still look flat and unwashed. It’s only when I compare the before and after photos that I see my hair looks marginally less lank. But there’s no sign of freshness. Still, at least there’s no visible residue. Time to hit the shower.

Verdict
If you’ve ever used a really good dry shampoo (like an Amika one or, in my case, Sephora’s Puff & Go Volumizing Dry Shampoo), the «Overnight Frische Wunder» is likely to disappoint you. The desired effect, which I’ve got used to achieving by using comparable products, failed to materialise for my boyfriend and me. I’ve also realised that I like using dry shampoo as a spontaneous emergency solution without having to think about it the night before. What’s more, I sweat and toss and turn during the night, posing even more of a challenge for the foam. All this considered, its performance wasn’t at all heroic.
Galaxus doesn’t have the Amika and Sephora products I recommended in its range.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
