Bring on the water! Stay hydrated throughout summer

The weather is amazing and the temperatures are rising every day. This is the time to enjoy the sun – but make sure you stay hydrated. Drink lots of water! Read on to find helpful tips and tricks that make it easy to drink enough water every day.
You’ve surely heard it again and again, but it’s always worth repeating: Drinking enough water is vital. Why? Because your body can’t live and function without water. Depending on your weight and activities, your body needs an average of 2 to 3 litres of water a day to stay healthy and productive. On hot days, you need even more than this. Whether you drink tap water, carbonated water, fruit tea or herbal tea doesn't matter, as long as you drink enough of it. If you get bored with this and feel extremely thirsty during your workout, try Apfelschorle (apple spritzer): one part apple juice, three parts water, this is a great sports drink – even better than isotonic drinks.
You find it difficult to drink enough water? Here are a few tips and tricks that make it easy to stay hydrated:
Tasty water
Your everyday companion
Carry a water bottle with you at all times and you’re bound to drink more than usual. If you work in an office, place it right in front of you, so you’re reminded to drink every now and then. What’s handy with water bottles is that you get a free top-up almost everywhere, as most taps and fountains in Switzerland provide drinking water. Tap water isn’t only cheaper and healthier than soft drinks, if you carry and refill your own water bottle, you don’t produce as much waste either.

You want to filter limescale and flavour-impairing substances out of tap water? No problem; water filters are also available for portable drinking bottles.
Spicing up boring water
You like fizzy water? It’s easy to carbonate filtered tap water at home. No need to carry heavy bottles home and produce unnecessary PET waste.

You have a sweet tooth? Soda concentrate gives tap and sparkling water a sweet note in no time at all. But don’t go over the top; soft drinks are OK, but unsweetened water is better.
The healthy alternative to syrup: Prepare fresh fruit or herbal tea if you fancy a drink with more flavour than water. Cold tea is delicious and refreshing at the same time. My tip: cold strawberry tea with a dash of lemon juice. Or try spicing up water with herbs and fruits: Put frozen raspberries or half a lime in the water. It’s delicious – give it a try!
Either fill a carafe…
…or put the fruits and herbs directly in your water bottle.

You prefer ice-cold drinks?
Fill these trays with water, place them in the freezer and enjoy your home-made ice cubes.
Ice cube makers produce ice for your chilled drinks within only a few minutes.
Handy in summer: your drink stays cool longer if you keep it in an insulated drinking bottle.

Smoothies and juices as liquid energy booster
Water is always a good choice, but healthy smoothies or juices are a welcome change. They don't only provide lots of liquid, but also a healthy dose of vitamins – two in one!
Whether freshly squeezed citrus fruits...
..or a smoothie in the morning…
..drinking vitamins is a great way to start the day.
