2. Keto Diastix strip

Keto-Diastix test strips are designed to monitor the presence and concentration of glucose and ketones (acetoacetic acid) in urine for self-testing by individuals with diabetes. When in contact with urine, the test fields on the Keto-Diastix test strip change color according to the amounts of glucose and ketones present in the urine. Normally, the body burns glucose (sugar) for energy. However, in diabetics, there is either no insulin or not enough insulin in the body, preventing glucose from being utilized for energy. A large portion of glucose is excreted in the urine. The body then resorts to using stored fat for energy, leading to the formation of ketones in the blood, which eventually also enter the urine. The presence of ketones is a signal from the body that something is not right. The presence of glucose and/or ketones in the urine may indicate that your insulin dosage is no longer appropriately adjusted to your blood sugar levels.

3. Elanee Ph test

The vaginal pH level often provides early indications of bacterial infections in the vagina. If an infection is not detected in time, it can ascend in the vagina and trigger premature labor or a rupture of membranes. This can lead to preterm births. About one-third of all preterm births are attributed to a bacterial vaginal infection. With the Elanee pH test, pregnant women can measure their vaginal pH level in just a few moments. The test is approved for use both at home and in professional settings. The plastic applicator makes it particularly easy and hygienic to use.

4. Mepha autotest VIH

Mepha Autotest VIH for the determination of an HIV infection (1 piece)

This testing method – also known as an HIV home test – can be performed by anyone at home
and has been available without a prescription in Switzerland since 2018. Similar to a blood glucose test, it requires a drop of blood, which is tested for antibodies against the HIV virus. These HIV self-tests yield a reliable result only if the risk situation occurred more than three months ago. If the time span is shorter than three months, a laboratory test must be conducted. If a positive result is obtained from an HIV self-test, a confirmation test must be performed at a testing center or by a doctor. It is important to ensure that the purchased HIV self-test bears a CE certification. With the CE certification, the manufacturer declares that their product is reliable and safe to use. HIV self-tests with CE certification are available in pharmacies and drugstores. There are also HIV self-tests available online, but caution is advised, as counterfeit products or tests that are not CE certified may be offered. Therefore, Aids-Hilfe Schweiz recommends purchasing a self-test at a pharmacy or drugstore.

Application

The autotest VIH® from Mepha is an HIV self-test or HIV home test and is available without a prescription. The autotest VIH® can detect an HIV infection if the risk contact occurred at least three months ago. The test is easy to perform, quick, and anonymous.

- Only a small amount of blood of 2.5 μl (a drop from the fingertip) is needed.
- Simple collection of the blood sample directly into the test tube.
- Press the test tube into the buffer solution with 3 clicks, and the test runs.
- Within one minute, a pink spot appears, indicating that the test has started.

5. Prima Bowel FOB

Prima Home Bowel FOB Test.

Self-test for the detection of occult blood in stool.

The Bowel FOB Test from Prima Home Test indicates the presence of occult blood
in the stool, which can be attributed to various gastrointestinal conditions such as polyps, ulcers, colitis, diverticula, fissures, hemorrhoids, or tumors. The symptoms of these conditions often go unnoticed in the early stages of the disease, making the search for occult blood in stool an important screening test that allows for early detection of gastrointestinal disorders.

Who is this test for? The Bowel FOB Test is useful for detecting the presence of blood in the stool that may not be visible to the naked eye, especially in individuals over 45 years old. In some cases, the presence of occult blood in the stool is not clearly detectable, so it is advisable to use devices that can do so without restrictions on food intake.

The Bowel FOB Test is an immunochromatographic device that detects minute amounts (over 40 ng/mL) of occult blood in stool samples.

6. Prima Prostata PSA Test

The Prostate PSA test checks the PSA level (Prostate Specific Antigen) in the blood to detect changes in the prostate. The prostate, or prostate gland, is a gland that is part of the male genital system. It is located in the pelvic area beneath the bladder and has a pyramidal, fibromuscular structure with a base at the top. The prostate is responsible for several functions, including the ability to liquefy and release sperm. This can vary depending on the presence of localized pathologies. PSA is a protein produced by the prostate gland. Its level provides insights into the physiological conditions of the prostate itself. PSA is normally present in small amounts in the blood of men with a healthy prostate. The presence of prostate changes, such as prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and cancer, leads to an increase in PSA levels in the blood. PSA levels can physiologically rise with age or after surgeries on the prostate gland following specific diagnostic tests, such as rectal examinations, biopsies, and prostate ultrasounds.
