There are so many in the world of skateboarding who view skating as a religion that must be practiced according to strict and specific standards; one must adapt and ride certain types of terrain, one must adapt and perform certain types of tricks, one must not mix this style with that style, one must look this way or that way, and so on. Then, every now and then, a skater like Andy comes along, who doesn't fit into this fanatical mold, a skater who is such an outsider that he doesn't even belong in skateboarding. He doesn't fit in because he doesn't follow the wrong dictates. What Andy does is live the creed of what a skateboarder should be. He does not conform and does not seek acceptance through conformity, and in doing so, he accepts the pain and exclusion that come with being a true outsider. That is what defines a real skateboarder.
