Long live retro, long live the figure eight! How wonderful that the Figure 8 from DMM still exists as this classic rappel device. Due to its simple shape and typical design, this figure eight is suitable for all climbers who are also on longer rappel routes. Notably, the two differently sized loops make the figure eight compatible with most commercially available climbing ropes. For rope diameters of 7.3-9.2 mm (mainly half and twin ropes), the rope is threaded through the smaller loop, which increases the braking effect. When rappelling on a double strand or with rope diameters of 8.5-11 mm (mainly single ropes), the larger loop is used instead.
