For ropes with a diameter of 7.3 to 9.2 mm, typically half and twin ropes, the smaller loop is used to increase braking power. For rappelling on a double strand or with single ropes ranging from 8.5 to 11 mm in diameter, the larger loop is employed. Weighing only 90 grams, the Figure 8 is lightweight and compact, making it an essential companion for all climbers.
