I always take the portafilter out of the machine. If it stays in, it doesn't turn itself off and keeps heating up.

I would never return this machine as I am very satisfied. The previous Solis Barista ran for 7 years without any problems and was only replaced because the costs for a repair were out of proportion to a new machine. Besides, the Barista Perfetta Plus is so beautifully slim ...
