The design of the Katai knives was inspired by wave-like shapes. This is evident in the shape of the blade and how it continues into the handle. The blade is entirely hand-forged and consists of 5 layers of Japanese VG10 steel. The hammering on the blade is essentially the same as in the other series, but it has been further refined with a very fine hammer. This type of processing is much more intensive, resulting in a finer appearance with a completely unique character. The handle, in turn, is made from root wood. The wood is first filled with resin, then pressed, and subsequently shaped. Through this process, each knife is unique in terms of surface, size, color, and wood grain.
